TV Network Will Air Documentary on Faith, Prisons

Soul of the South Network (SSN) will begin airing "Through the Door" at 8 p.m. (CST) Aug. 25.

A special 47-minute version of's documentary will be broadcast multiple times in addition to the initial airing.

These additional air times include midnight Aug. 25, followed by airings at 8 p.m. and midnight Aug. 29.

The final airing will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31.

All times are Central Standard Time.

"Through the Door" highlights the faith community's engagement with prisons, including inmates and officers, being in prison and out, both charity and justice.

It also raises awareness of what some faith communities are doing on the prison front by highlighting stories in Nashville, Tennessee; Richmond, Virginia; Huntsville, Texas; Carlisle, Indiana; Atlanta, Georgia, and more.

Prior to appearing on SSN, the film appeared on Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters TV network in May.

It has also been screened at local churches in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina and Indiana, with additional screenings scheduled in the fall.

"We're grateful that our documentary on faith and immigration has a chance to compete for TV eyeballs," Cliff Vaughn, media producer for, said.

"Sane voices of faith don't get enough airtime, but Soul of the South is changing that," Vaughn said, expressing hope that readers would share broadcasting information with their churches and networks.

SSN currently has 18 stations carrying its programming. Its largest affiliate, WKOB in New York City, reaches nearly 7.5 million homes. The next largest affiliate, WOCK in Chicago, reaches 3.5 million homes.

Launched in May 2013, SSN focuses on black Americans, offering news, cultural and entertainment programming. Its programming reaches more than 20 million homes.
