Profiles In Goodwill: Darrell James


Darrell James, a longtime Baptist Center for Ethics advocate and event volunteer, is an avid baseball fan, who has tried to memorize the birth date of every active Major League Baseball player.

Darrell James is senior pastor of Culbertson Baptist Church (ABC-USA) in New Albany, Indiana, and associate resource minister for pastoral care at American Baptist Churches of Indiana and Kentucky. He is a longtime Baptist Center for Ethics advocate and event volunteer.

1. Where did you grow up?

Morganton, North Carolina, and Elyria, Ohio.

2. What is your favorite Bible verse, book or story? Why?

2 Corinthians 5:17.

It reminds me that God is always at work in me, giving me second chances to grow every day.

3. What is your favorite movie? Why?

"Big Jake," starring John Wayne.

It communicates the idea that in life evil and wrong get their hurtful way for a while, but in the end love and perseverance win.

4. Who are three of the people you admire?

James Dunn, Henri Nouwen and Roy Garrison (my grandfather).

5. What is one little known fact about yourself?

As an avid baseball fan, since age 16, I have tried to memorize the birth date of every active Major League Baseball player.
