2012 BCE Luncheon at CBF General Assembly

PRE-ORDERED TICKETS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. A FEW SEATS MAY OPEN UP ON THE DAY OF THE LUNCHEON AND BECOME AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. IF INTERESTED, E-MAIL ROBERT PARHAM AT robert.parham@ethicsdaily.com.

What: The Baptist Center for Ethics and the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas are sponsoring an ethics luncheon at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's General Assembly.

When: Thursday, June 21, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Omni Fort Worth Hotel, Fort Worth, Texas

What’s the Program: Taxation is a connecting cord that runs through the Gospel According to Luke--from the enrollment of Mary and Joseph for purposes of taxation to Jesus attending a banquet with "a large company of tax collectors," from Jesus leading a chief tax collector into conversion to the false accusation before Pilate that he was a tax evader.

Not only does taxation weave through the New Testament, it is foundational to almost any social justice initiative, yet rarely a topic in church.

Luncheon attendees will view a recut, 20-minute version of EthicsDaily.com's award-winning documentary Sacred Texts, Social Duty, hear from faith leaders about the connection between taxation and the common good, and engage in audience dialogue about the topic.

Sacred Texts, Social Duty is a 2011 Bronze Telly Award Winner in the film/video category (non-broadcast) for religion/spirituality. Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards honor film and video productions, web commercials and TV programs. Winners have included the History Channel, ESPN, NASA, National Gallery of Art, and local TV stations.
