What:BCE’s annual luncheon at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s General Assembly

What’s the Program: The program will include a partial screening of our documentary DVD “Beneath the Skin,” a panel response from Baptists of color and an audience conversation about what we can do together as goodwill Baptists to address constructively the issue of racism.
"Beneath the Skin" won the best documentary award at the International Black Film Festival of Nashville in October 2008 and a similar award at the Cine-Fest Motion Picture Expo in Louisville in December. It was accepted for screening at the San Diego Black Film Festival in January 2009 and was nominated for the best documentary award at the Texas Black Film Festival in February. This widely acclaimed film is being used in churches and communities to bring together goodwill Baptists and creating new partnerships committed to addressing an entrenched problem.
Javier Elizondo, executive vice president, Baptist University of the Americas, and John Ogletree, pastor, First Metropolitan Church of Houston and former chair of the Baptist General Convention of Texas’ executive board, are confirmed panelists.
Other program participants include Chester Thompson, pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Camden, Ark. Thompson is the first African American to server as moderator-elect for CBF of Arkansas.
Who Should Attend: The luncheon is intended for goodwill Baptists who are concerned about racism and determined to work on racial justice issues and for racial reconciliation.
